Former student speaks of his BTS experience

Ryan Smith, Bicester Technology Studio (BTS) alumnus and current apprentice for Thames Valley Police

Ryan, who joined BTS in Year 12, is now working as an Application Support Analyst at Thames Valley Police after successfully securing his full-time apprenticeship.

Ryan said: “I prefer to learn while working on the job as it allows me to put what I have learnt into practice. I took a liking to two posts within the Police and the ethics behind working in the public sector. After being shortlisted, I went on to interview with a panel and, the next day, found out my contract was being sent in the post!”

“I feel that BTS definitely helped me to secure this opportunity. The school itself made me a more confident individual and I now believe that I can achieve anything. This is no doubt down to the exposure we had to many external companies/partners. You are pushed outside of your comfort zone, and this is what helped me exceed my predicted grades.”

“BTS is different to any other school. It isn’t run like a school; its run more like a business and you are one of its stakeholders. Like any business, the more you put into it, the more you’ll certainly get out of it. Apply yourself well at BTS by making the most of your time, using it wisely and you will achieve”.
