Lendlease project team take a trip to leading manufacturer, JSP
On 20 February, students in the Lendlease project team visited hard hat manufacturer, JSP to take a tour of their facilities and to gain an insight into how hard hats are designed.
Since last year, this project team, made up of students across years 10,11 and 12 have been working on designing their own ‘smart hard hat’ to improve health and safety on construction sites. This project has been set in partnership with global construction business, Lendlease.
Following the tour from JSP’s Director of Respiratory and Technical Support, Matthew Judson, the students were shown how attachments can be incorporated into their own hard hat designs, giving them food for thought.
Oxfordshire-based company, JSP are acknowledged as a global leader in the design and manufacture of ‘above the neck’ industrial head protection: hard hats, eye and face protection for construction sites and other hazardous working environments. The company has recently launched an innovative new face mask that shields workers from breathing in harmful dust and noxious gases and vapours.
Here is what our students said about the trip:
“It was great to visit somewhere completely new, where we had no pre-conceptions. It really opened our eyes to how far you can push your ideas and make them a reality. I definitely came away, having learnt a lot.” Tushaar, Year 10
“I enjoyed learning about the whole process behind building a hard hat – from initial idea to the finished product. The machinery was far more advanced than I had first imagined and it gave you a sense of what it takes to become an entrepreneur and to make your business a success.” Florian, Year 11
